New Orleans Doors

The first thing many people notice as you enter a home is the front door. A door is part of the face of a home. It's just a small part of the house but as an architectural element it says a lot about the times. This is especailly true of historic homes. Many times doors were almost works of art in their day. Now they are works of art!

A classic example of New Orleans architectural elements is shuttered doors. Shuttered doors allow the homeowner to let a breeze in, keep the sun out, and combat storm winds. Shuttered doors are found on many of NOLA�s historical homes and buildings peppered throughout the French Quarter. The architectural elements found throughout The Big Easy are reason enough for a visit.

Today many old doors are restored to give that feel "hey I did not forget that I am an old home". If Nawlin's doors, walls, courtyards and streets could talk I would love to hear their conversation.
